These images were taken by award winning Madison-based photographer Maureen Cassidy.  Six months prior to the shoot, I met with Maureen to talk about my plan for a topless public photo shoot to bring into the light the toll breast cancer and in my case the threat of breast cancer does to the body.   

 

As a woman, who carries the BRACA 1 gene, my journey to proactively remove my natural breasts and have them reconstructed was a personal one but also unfortunately a common one for millions of woman who have been touched by cancer.   

 

It is my hope and the hope of millions of women, that the next generation of women will not have to face the difficult and life threatening and altering decision of fighting cancer or going to drastic measures to avoid cancer like I did and millions of other before me have.
